Your Smile, has a greater impact on someone than what you think.
I am officially the worst blogger, so much happens and Im trying to absorb it in, and do everything I can to keep up. I sometimes get lost in time, and realize like so much has past me, before I start to process what is happening. So here I am stumbling on words, trying to explain myself. Im sorry I can't update everyday, as I just said I can hardly soak in what is happening never mind publishing it, right after. I need to start putting more in to the program, and focus on my group instead of everything away from here. You know I think of all of you everyday, it's just so difficult for me to please everyone, being this far away from home. I will try to update at least a week. And I will continue with the letters, and everything else. Man I miss everyone lots, but I need to get my priorities more in line, with how I will manage my time.
After I posted last week, I got rundown by a horrible flu, and cold. Ironic the day before at my work was flu clinic, and I am all like "I don't need that!" And yes I keep hearing it, you should have got it! Yes Dad I know, you have said it about 50 times ha ha! But I missed like two days at work, and just stayed in bed. I still feel horrible, and my voice hasn't came back yet. Hopefully this is the once and for all sickness of the winter. Friday I finally returned to reality, and went back to work. Well what work? I was not needed to be there since no one wants a sick person working with food, or infecting the public. So It was a rough day doing nothing. Friday night we did interpetive dance, it was lots of fun. Our group needed to let loose and have fun. Also it was "British Themed Night"- very funny. David was Mr. Bean, I think thats why I loved the night so much. I went on an adventure with Chelsea, David, Kyle, and Mitch in the evening. I think I walked the whole town in one night, but it was tons of fun!
Saturday I woke up to Black out Day,, where we were not aloud to use electricity, phones, ipods, computers, anything unnecessary. I must say it was very difficult being unattached to all these things. In the morning we left to do some maintenance at the CLA assisted living home down the street. My group painted, cleaned, and organized. I have never cleaned so many toilets or scrubbed so many walls in my life. Nevermind I take that back.. Camp maintenance is just at intense. Well I must just be a pro toilet scrubber now! They were so appreciative of our work, since they don't have much time to get extra cleaning in, and they were so happy with our work. When we were finished we all went swimming at the YMCA. And I realized my diving, is more like a belly flop, and it entertains others. Other than that it was a fun time! When we got home the house was really dark, so thats when we broke out the flashlights, and fumbled around. Eating supper was so funny, it was so dark, and the flashlight never seemed to work good enough. Right after supper a few of us rushed down the street to downtown for the "Santa Clause Parade!!" SO exciting! I had a lot of fun, and it really got me in the Christmas Mood. When we returned home, a couple of the guys had just bought flashing light glow swords. Thats when they battled, and offered us a better source of light. It was funny. After stumbling around the house, and becoming restless because it was 7pm and we were ready to bed with the pitch darkness. We decided to go to a movie, David and I went to "Due Date" I thought it was so funny! Apparently some parts it was just me who thought it was funny, because I could only hear my laugh. David was embarrassed, but who isn't when they go to movies with me? What can I say, my laugh carries. Actually tonight Katie asked me if I could turn my laugh down a couple knotches, honestly I don't think I can control it ha ha. Anyway really good movie, I suggest going to it. Kayla I think you would really appreciate the humor ha ha!
It was nice going to bed after Saturday since it was such a long day, with lots of walking. We debriefed about the black out day, and realized we didn't really conserve energy, we instead displaced where we used our energy, by constantly leaving the house to go elsewhere which provided energy and something for us to do. We decided next blackout day we will plan all day activities where we are forced to stay in as a group. However, during saturday when there was downtime I was forced to go to a common room where the whole group is, instead of going on my computer or phone. It was really good for me, and I hope to continue doing these kinds of things. It's really refreshing forgetting about technology for the day.
Sunday was another crazy day, we woke up early to go to CLA again to do more work for them. I rushed out to get do the Soup Kitchen Rehearsal for the play "In my Shoes". I am performing one last time with them on Friday, after my last day at work with them. They are really short on actors right now, So I am happy I can help them one last time, before someone else takes over my role. Sunday evening we had the weekly KCC meeting. Where we spend two hours, or more talking and debating, about all of our plans, activities, and anything important. So much is going on right now, and after hearing everyones sides and opinions of things my head is spinning. Honestly, think of like 11 people sharing their ideas, and such? It's powerful sometimes, and difficult to come to a consensus. I am secretary, so keeping track of everything is a story of itself ha. We leave next Wednesday, so there is so many end of rotation tasks to complete. From meetings, Final Words, Projects, Cleaning, and so much thinking. jshfdjsbhfls Is how I feel right about now. Literally.
Today, Is Monday. And I feel like my head is like a week behind, because I havent caught up to all the crazyness yet. Today at work I helped prepare lunch, and served. Helped with the good food boxes which go out to those in need to the community once a month, and worked on some more paperwork. Tonight supper was late. I feel so bad, Marina K.B and Kyle went on their regular grocery trip we do on Monday of the new week. They go to the store, load up the carts, this usually takes about two hours and yes indeed it's stressful shopping for 11 people. Get to the till, and all the tills have some kind of power failure. And they are forced to leave empty handed after all the shopping to a new store, to go through the whole process again. Yeah they were not home until like 5, I can't imagine how ridiculous that would be. I can't handle the 2 hours let alone times 2. Oh the respect we build up for all the hard work House Managers do!
After sups, we all played scrabble. My competency planned the event. "Second Language Learning" The english people played a game where you could only make French Words for Points. And the French people could only make English words in their separate game. We were all in the same room so it ended up being lots of fun. I came in like fourth place. It was so difficult playing, when you don't know many french words. The dictionary definitely helped a lot! And I also learned a few more words in french, which is always good. After the activity, we had to do a rehearsal of our group presentation for our potluck we are putting on this Thursday, for our work partners, billet families, and the community. We are calling it the "Katima Casserole" and we are all chefs. Our project leader is the head chef and he introduces us. The objective is that we are all putting ingredients in to the bowl of our experience here in the Sault. I will type up what I put in my recipe, which I will be presenting with everyone this Thursday, and it can show all you how my time as been spent! Ill remember to do that after, I don't want anyone to read mine yet, from the community who may be showing up. So example would be like, Im going to add in some love now for all the warmth I received from the Soup Kitchen. And we will have pretend ingredients to mix up! It should be entertaining!
And now I am hardly keeping my eyes open, Its a very stressful time right now, I don't even know how I typed all that up. We take off next Wednesday. We fly to Toronto from here, and then straight to Moncton! Everything is moving fast. Please ask me for my new address, so I can keep receiving lovely mail:)
I love you all very much!
Peace,
AmyDawn
