Accepting and letting go, a difficult balancing act
I am forever blessed to have you as my life partner, I often will ask myself what would of happened if you came in to my life sooner, then I remember a very important line in my favourite poem Desiderata- "Never doubt that the universe is unfolding as it should" and this is why I didn't question the universe when I was heart broken or wondering why the hell I am in such a shitty situation. No matter where you are in your journey you may be sad, angry, afraid or simply content.. the bottom line is the truth- that you need to be here right now feeling this positivity or negativity for what we are experiencing now just prepares us for the next adventure. As soon as we go with the grain vs going against the grain we may just see things unfolding in a different way.
A while ago on one of my numerous trips of self discovery on a silent meditation retreat in California I was faced with the simple truth of acceptance of what is. I finally figured out the real path to happiness and it was the easiest concept I have ever learned and I had to spend a lot of money and travel way too many miles to find this truth. A little secret you can find it right here where you are right now. Of course it was a fun trip and added to the experience of learning about my self and meeting new people and learning from them.. it was so wonderful I did it again the next year so I can't really judge one for wanting to travel to learn these things.. sometimes the reality is that we need a different perspective to find that key that is within you right now.
I understand that mental health, financial situations, family and friend support, and cultural differences may make this easy concept of "Accepting What Is" a not so easy concept. I do take these factors in to consideration- myself I struggle with anxiety and depression and sometimes its like "Life fuck off and leave me alone, I am going to stay in bed and cry or maybe eat something unhealthy to cope" I understand this balance of course. I think the main part of this concept is not that we cannot feel things as thats a natural process of riding out our emotions and experiencing different things, instead recognizing the anger, fear or sadness.. accepting it for what it is and then letting it go. In that act of saying Okay this sucks and this situation or person has made me feel _______ and then looking at that and understanding that we have zero control over this good or bad experience and once we have processed it, we should simply let it go because honestly how can we control another person's behaviours or thought processes. This takes a lot of practise and a lot of digging within ourselves as us humans naturally place the blame in other people for our hurt and situations. Honestly the only control we truly have is how we will react to the situation and how we process and move forward. I have learned that angry people who are often negative about a lot of things have burdened a lot of sadness and grief and maybe that is a coping method which results in the beliefs that the world is terrible and nothing good will happen. Well of course if we have this idea that nothing good will happen then nothing good will happen because we will always always only see the bad in every situation. This all starts within and retraining ourselves to view situations, feelings, and people with a different perspective. As soon as we start to swap out one bad thought for one good thing an amazing shift happens in our brain and we naturally start to see things for the positive vs only the bad.
Back to the idea that we must accept what is, we also must understand that we have this amazing power to give out to the universe what we want in return.. also known as Karma and the power of our intentions and creating positivity in our future. I believe so strongly in this as our thoughts are so powerful. If you continue to believe nothing good will happen, or your situation will never change and you can't help this or yourself then chances are you will never get out of that rut. In this situation you naturally won't have any positivity about taking any chance on finding a better situation because you won't see the benefit and naturally you aren't putting out the good energy for this shift to happen. As soon as you have the slightest string of hope you may naturally start pulling yourself out and seeing things differently and with this comes different ideas and a new beginning.. and also will attract many great things your way.... the power of thoughts and the law of attraction.
This can be practised with the help of a counsellor or a friend or someone that can help you work through all of your thoughts and ideas about past experiences and for the future to come. Also sometimes we do have imbalances chemically as I did mention mental health as a factor in any of these processes. I don't think I could follow or trust the process of doing the work of acceptance and letting go with out the help of a magic pill I call Prozac. So always remember to reach out to medical professional or access care with a naturopath... whatever works for you and your unique situation.
So much love to all of you
