Life in the middle of a mountain.
We had our first mornning of sunshine in almost two weeks. It was a nice mix up from everything that has happened in the last week. Last weekend we were about to go to the beach and everything was happy times. When we arrived home last Friday our whole house was ripped apart. Someone broke in and stole lots of our things. The poor dog was shoved in Diegos room. I was so anxious because I thought my credit card and passport were stolen, but I was lucky and they didnt look behind my dresser. In the end my rings, camera batter, charger, memory card, and cellphone were stolen. Adam had pretty much every electronic stolen, and Melanie had a lot stolen too. Diego and his family just happened to be in San Jose for the weekend, so of course it was planned.. and you can assume where the suspicion is pointed at. Apparently there were many copies of our room keys in someone elses room.. put that together in your end. We are not impressed. Friday night we stayed in the hotel since it was not safe to stay there, and then we went to the police station on Sat morning to get our finger prints and what not taken to compare them with the fingerprints they found in our room. After we went home and packed everything up.
Instead of the beach we headed to the Organic farm earlier. What a lovely place, they were so welcoming. Of course we had a huge delicous lunch, and spent the afternoon chatting and setteling in to our new place to stay which is down the road from the farm. All we have is our beds, it is funny. However we were making the most out of it. Sunday was another chill day we spent with the family and friends talking and what not. They are such a happy family, its over whelming! Monday we started some work in the chicken coops, cleaning them, and feeding the chickens. Tuesday was killing day so we worked on our activity reports, I did not want to be apart of that however I have much respect for those that kill their own meat, and its organic. Wednesday we helped prepare and clean up a chicken coop for 1200 little chicks arriving today. The work is quite dirty, those chickens dont leave a nice smell behind I can tell you that much.
I have really enjoyed all the talks with everyone at the farm, the whole community is like a family so there is always people coming and going. Keeps everything interesting. I have been wired with all the coffee I have been drinking. Digna the lady at the farm, our key contact drinks a lot of coffee so of course I do too with her! The meals have been so great, they are so generous with us, and always concerned if we are happy or not. It is a very special place, and I am enjoying my time there. Today we went in to San Marcos to finish typing up our activity reports, and to finish painting our murals at the elementary school. We are almost completed everything. Tomorrow we are doing some more work and then we get to go horse back riding further up on the mountain, I forgot to mention the organic farm is among mountains so there is no internet and hardly any reception so its nice to be away from technology.
Saturday we are finally getting to go to the beach, and then Sunday we are heading to San Jose for project debriefing at the office. Monday the project is over and I am doing my own thing for a week before heading to Ontario for a couple of weeks!
I have been in for the long haul, and things have been difficult. However I am almost there.
Much love from rainy Costa Rica.
