Cacti plants, I do not appreciate you.
Today was our last day in Santa Maria, we finished our job at the coffee plantation. The house actually looks a lot better, and all our sweat and pain from those stupid cacti plants paid off. We worked there the rest of last week, and the weather was actually really nice for thursday and friday, not too much rain at all. We had the weekend off, and I mostly slept, ate, and watched movies. I was so exhausted, so I had no problem not doing too much. Tomorrow we are starting some work with implementing a recycling plan and making some trails for tourists. This weekend the director from YCI is coming to visit our project, so that will be interesting! I guess I dont have too much to say about the work since we have been focused on the same thing. I think I need to keep updating either way to keep the sanity of my mother.
I am not sure if i mentioned this or not, but we now have three extra people living with us. We were not aware of this at the beginning of project however Diego the one who we are staying with has a family from Nicaragua, and his two year old, and 8 year old and his lady friend moved in with us. She is a really nice lady, and is a great cook. Although our home is already very small, so that makes living a bit more difficult, this kind of raised some problems because our group would have appreciated to know a bit more than a week in advance that we would have more people living with us. Diego is a really funny guy, and thats just like him to not mention he has children, and a wife, well sometimes its his wife, or its his girlfriend.. we arent too sure about that one.
English lessons went really well thursday and friday. The advanced class on friday was the best one yet, lets just say some interesting people came.. and my innapropriate laughing in the mix.. I will mentally prepare myself to not laugh so much next time, I wasnt making fun of anyone, however just interesting personalities of a couple of the students. Its really great to meet more people from the community. At the end of the class they were trying to teach us how to dance, I have no idea what Jorge told them.. but they all got up and grabbed our hands to start dancing. When we got home we had Brigittes birthday fiesta, the cake turned out a bit better this time. We dont have an oven so cake baking consists of boiling water, and then another pot in it with the cake, there is a new way to do a lot of things here. I am enjoying a new birthday every friday. I am not sure if I ever mentioned Mosis, he is a local kid who is cousins with Diego, he is always hanging out with us, he is like part of our group it seems like, and then there is Roberto Diegos younger brother, he is always with us too.
I am not sure what else I can say, things are going well, rocky at times, like any thing in life. I am trying to keep positive, and remember why I am here, and its not always to have a good time. I am excited for a switch up in work in the next few days. I cant believe it has already been three weeks, but it has been crazy for sure.
Well I am excited it is Macaroni Monday! Just saying!
Lots of love,
