Small acts of Kindness go a long way..
Hey y'all, I know it has been a few days.. but time hasn't allowed moi to write on here; and plus the katima house doesn't have internet right now, So I can update here at work while waiting for my cakes to finish cooking for the soup kitchen feast tomorrow night! Let me think on whats happened! We spent the weekend, volunteering at Bush Plane days, which is held at the Bush Plane Museum here in town, this event is an anual thing and tons of people came out to it. They had "Wolverine" and "Iron Man" come, apparently they had to go through an agency in California to have these characters come, because it is illegal to have someone dress up in these copyright costume without getting someone from the agency to do it. So that was pretty neat, good thing they don't know about "Special Days" at camp, or else we would have alot of agencies after us ha ha. The most exciting part of Bush Plane Days was that I actually went on a plane, that took off out of water and landed in water as well. I thought it was so cool! There was also showings of the big plane that drops water out, for forest fires; and the helicopter which drops water too. I got some cool pictures which will be on facebook soon.
Monday we didn't have work, instead we went out to "Wa Wa" a small town about three house from "The Sault". It was for the "211" launch- this is like the 411 service however 211 is free of charge here in Ontario and it is more personal and helpful. You can call for Job Postings, really anything you have questions about. None of that stupid operator business ha ha. I was the photographer at the event, and I thought that was pretty cool because my pictures are being used for media! Other than the good parts of the day, David the "Funny French" guy started having pains in his side, and was hyperventilating.. Good thing Im a first aider(sarcasm) The paramedics happened to be at the event and took him in the ambulance to the hospital. He spent the whole day in that hospital then again in the Sault hospital. Poor guy, he just had a couple small problems although he is getting better!
Yesterday it was back to work! And it was a busy day, I helped out with serving and such in the morning, then in the afternoon I baked with an open kitchen addictions group. It was fun, and I learned some more recipes! I enjoy meeting new people, and doing new things. As of now I am at work, this morning i was in the kitchen helping prepare for the meal, then this afternoon I was helping cook with the Hospital group that comes in, with individuals ranging from 16-35. Then again, I got recipes after that I was baking caked for the feast tomorrow as I said earlier! I am excited, I volunteered Katimavik to serve at the event, and I am preparing a short presentation to introduce ourselves, and explain what we do! I also got in contact with media, so hopefully we can get coverage and raise awareness on the soup kitchen, and to introduce "katimavik" to the community.
The way things roll after work, we have a welcome party tonight open to the community! We have prepared bios about ourselves with out pictures, so people can get to know us, and to think if they would like to open up their doors for one of us for when we have to be billeted with families for 12 days. That starts next thursday! I am excited, maybe I will meet some more people around my age. And yay for lots of food tonight as it is a pot luck supper! p.s my jeans are getting tight. :(
I should get going because I am still at work. I just wanted to write so everyone knows im still kickin' and doing well!
Much Love<3
