Francais? - huh
Bonjour everyone! I am very tired, and it's late here so I should keep it short. I just heard the boat blowin it's horn again, It's so weird hearing that then a train roaring through. It's a cool change. Okay, so thinking back. Yesterday we split into teams and had to go on a scavenger hunt around town. It was funny, my team got the farthest first destination, meanwhile everyone else didn't have to go as far for the first place. I learned Im not so good with maps, but really- when was I ever? Ha ha. I learned that Wayne Gretzky is from here, and played on the Greyhounds Hockey Team from this town. Who knew that? There were a couple other names but that one only stuck out to me. So we got 2nd. It was a very close call. I remember walking down the avenue and looking over at the other team at the same place heading back and we just started bolting it, and thats when we picked up the intensity a little bit. It was fun, and it was a good way to get to know the town more! After getting back we had to make presentations with our group on our places we went, and let everyone know what info we gathered. Because when we stopped at each place we had a series of questions to ask. My places were the Sault Ste. Marie tourist office, Clean North office which is an Environmental place, and last was the Museum here. So we had to focus on our second language while doing it, so I had to present some stuff in French, and that's always interesting ha ha.
Other than that yesterday, we then went on to more information. We talked about the "competencies" which are things we need to focus on. I believe I mentioned those in my last post. Anywho, we picked the Healthy Lifestyle one to focus on for the first 3 months, however we still have the good ol' communicating in both languages one, and other basic ones. We decided we could have someone come in to do Yoga with us, also someone to talk about healthy eating, and we were thinking maybe a mental health person. We all realize how challenging the next months may be, and it would be good to learn about ways to deal with our stress, and all that jazz. So we will get extra money for this area, and we will be trying to be more healthy physically and mentally. Then in our next block we can change which competency we wish to focus on more so.
Moving on, today was a lazy Sunday. I hate Sundays, they are so so boring. Anywho, I woke up late like 10 am. Then I went for a nice walk to a beautiful park with lots of ponds and paths. I layed under a tree for some time, then i went to see all the birds, and the river that seperates this town from Michigan. It was nice to get out of the house and get some fresh air. Other than that I had a meeting, about the Competency group I am in. I chose to be in the "Communicate in your second language" group. It's funny because everyone in my group is french, and one is bilingual which is helpful to translate for moi. It gets difficult sometimes.. So we decided we could have a bilingual night. Have supper only being able to communicate in your second language, and label things on the table. Then have a movie night where we watch a bilingual movie, and do a question sheet to see how much we picked up. Thats just one of our ideas for an activity. We have to do a workshop thing every week, so it will be cool to plan for!
We had a yummy supper tonight, then just sat around and talked. I decided David the French guy is up close to NFLD guy for being so funny. He keeps saying dirty things in English, he did it by accident the first time, and now he just knows it makes us laugh. And now, I just laugh for no reason, my laughing at inapropriate times is creepin in'. Finally people are noticing, my crazy laugh that everyone back at home comments on.
Tomorrow is job site tours, I am excited. Then someone is coming in to do workshops on how to do interviews well. Then Tuesday I go for interviews and find out what my job is, then finally Wend I officially start working full time. So bam bam bam everything is happening fast.
Im thinking of everyone, and p.s I get a new bus pass tmw please send good luck my way ..I might need it for round 2. Ha ha..
Peace & Love
