Feeding the hungry does the soul good (:
Wow finally time to sit down and breathe, last night we had our welcome party. It wasn't a great turn out, although we had so much food.. even perogies it was so goooooood! Today I worked like a usual day, and it was the soup kitchen feast. I was very pleased with how it went, and my presentation went well! They had Indian drummers there, it was so inspirational and we all "Smudged" it's when they burn tobacco, sweet grass, and sage together. And you put all this in a thing and as it is burning you like blow the smoke in your face, and it is said to relieve the negativity and help you walk better, and be free from the negative. It was so uplifting hearing them tell their stories, and it's so nice to know people are so in tune with nature and the simple things in life. After the presentations, Katimavik served and cleaned up. Everyone really appreciated our help, it was such a wonderful feeling.
Earlier today, before the feast when I was just setting up and such, a wonderful lady came in to the soup kitchen, with produce (tons of it) and like two basket fulls of other food. It was so cute it was raining out and I was helping her, and she says "My husband just past away, and I can't eat all this myself" And she hugged me, it was so nice. I started to tear up because it was so sad, however amazing because of her kind heart. Another inspiring thing, someone came in yesterday with a 600$ cheque, and this is quite common. There are so many wonderful people in this world.
Well today has been very busy for me, and one of those days where I reflect on my life, and the lives of others. I was just sitting here, with everyone and talking about how much goes on in life that we don't see or know about, and the stuff which brainwashes us. An example is Eminem and Rihanna's new song which is about raping a girl, and killing her if she speaks or something. This is what kids are listening to, it's mainstream. There is so much going on in this world, that is unexplainable or doesn't have any valued purpose only the value of money.
I also learned today that Bannanas are horrible as well as Pineapples. They are full of pesticides, and workers in this industry die every year because of bad working conditions. I wish we had organic or a farmer's market here, I love Bannanas! Now I have something else to avoid consuming.
Well, I have been very busy lately, and it's good because I feel like I am accomplishing so much when I go to bed. I love going to bed, and smiling because of the work I do in the day, and the people I cross paths with. Today I took on a roll in the soup kitchen's play which is done for the directors and people who are main funders of the soup kitchen; the night will be like a dinner theatre type deal. It gives them a real life perspective in to the lives of people who come to the soup kitchen daily; whether they be student nurses, volunteers, or people who just need a hot meal provided for them daily, and some of these people barely get by. This play is done by characters and those characters are the real people, and their story. Someone couldn't do their part, so I am taking on a major role. I have so much to memorize! It is so wonderful, I am a person who lives in poverty, I have family, Im pregnant, and Im alone in our society. I will post my lines on here, to give you all insight in to my role. We will try to open up the play again to the community perhaps during a rehearsal or something. I am stoked, and I should get going with memorizing!
Another thing before I take off once again, I applied for Canada World Youth! It would start in June, and It's another program funded by Heritage Canada like Katimavik. It is six months, and I do three months here volunteering somewhere in Canada, then I switch places with someone from another country and I go volunteer there and they come here and do the same. This would be really neat to go over seas or something! Oh the opportunities life holds. So I am crossing my fingers it works out.
I should get going I got another early morning..
